Employment tribunal awards increase again
On a cheery note, although business profits may not be rising, that hasn't stopped the annual inflation-linked increase in limits on employment tribunals awards, which include an increase in the maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal claims to £66,200. There remains no limit on the amount a tribunal can award in discrimination claims.
Given the severity of the credit crunch, we believe that no sensible business can ignore the serious risks imposed by an application to the employment Tribunal. Could your business survive the award of compensation of £66,200, not to mention your own legal costs and the huge disruption and stress such an application entails? Our advice is straightforward:
- Make sure all your employment policies, procedures and contracts are thorough, up-to-date and that they are being implemented.
- Consider joining our Employment Protection Scheme. For just a small monthly investment, you'll get a comprehensive review of your employment contracts and procedures, a free Employment Lawyers helpline and Employment Tribunal Insurance -- and the peace of mind that goes with it. Given that there were 240,000 applications to the employment tribunal in 2006/7 (the most recent figures) can you afford not to join our Employment Protection Scheme?
