How Much Compensation Could I Get
If you have been the subject of an unfair dismissal you are entitled to a basic award and a compensatory award. The basic award takes into account your age, salary and length of service. The compensatory award is based on any financial loss you have suffered resulting from your dismissal. The maximum compensation award for unfair dismissal is now over £50,000 and employees are entitled to make a claim after only one year of employment. The amount of compensation therefore depends on the time you are out of work and on how well any new job you get pays compared with your old job. You have a duty to take reasonable steps to minimise your financial loss. You therefore, need to take appropriate steps looking for work and should consider joining employment agencies. You need to keep a record of your attempts to find work and copies of all relevant correspondence. If you have been discriminated against you would also be entitled to compensation for injury to your feelings. The average award is about £2000.
