Denise Broomfield qualified in 1991 having studied law at the University of West of England. She was appointed a partner at Bonallack and Bishop in June 2017.
As a trainee solicitor with a large regional firm, Denise gained as much experience of advocacy as she was able. She had a life-changing moment one day when attending Bristol Domestic Violence Court and realising that there were 68 bruised and battered women and children needing representation.
From that moment Denise decided to be the spokeswoman for the ordinary injured person and to seek justice for individuals.
Since 1996 Denise has specialised in Medical Negligence (often referred to as clinical negligence), catastrophic injury claims, fatal accident claims and Inquests. She is a member of the Avma Solicitors’ Referral Panel (and was its youngest member on appointment) and The Law Society’s Clinical Negligence Panel. While there are around 140,000 practising solicitors in England and Wales, only around 180 are on both of these highly specialist panels. Denise is one of those Solicitors.
She is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.
Denise has a special interest in claims involving women’s health (nothing like having experienced the practical to understand the theory!), claims involving late diagnosis of cancer, claims involving all types of surgery, spinal injury claims and ophthalmology.
She will attend clients in hospital and at home if they are too unwell to attend the office. Denise is also a regular visitor to the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre in Salisbury.
Her Inquest work has seen her representing families in regional Coroner’s Courts in a range of Inquries involving clinical negligence, accidents at work, industrial disease and investigations involving suicides.
She states the best piece of advice she has ever been given is “if you are going to do Court work buy the best possible shoes you can”. This was indeed good advice, considering how many hours are spent standing in a Court room and something she passes on to her trainee solicitors.
When not representing her clients Denise enjoys spending time with her family, photography, travelling, live music, walking, kayaking, swimming and basically doing anything which does not involve being in an office!
