If so, look no further than the divorce and family law team here at local solicitors Bonallack & Bishop, at our new Fordingbridge office [following our merger in October 2017 with Fordingbridge Solicitors, Jacksons].
Your divorce settlement will have an enormous impact on the rest of your life, so it is really important that you have the right solicitor on your side at a time when you really need it.
2022 divorce update and our £600 Fixed Price Divorce Service
April 1, 2022, saw the introduction of the 1st update to divorce law and procedure in 50 years.
And among the changes was the introduction of what is virtue as “no blame” divorce – no longer do you have to establish 1 of the 5 grounds for divorce (e.g. adultery or unreasonable behaviour). All you need to do is to state that your marriage has irretrievably broken down. Joint applications for divorce have now been introduced – so both husband-and-wife can apply for divorce together, a welcome change.
And in addition, both the procedure and the terminology have been modernised and streamlined.
And as a result of this simplification, our family lawyers now offer a fixed-fee divorce service.

But how do you spot the right divorce solicitor?
Firstly you definitely need a real specialist – someone who does divorce and family law and nothing else.
Secondly you have to find a divorce solicitor who you personally feel comfortable talking to, and equally one who listens to you. It’s essential that you are as open as possible about your circumstances with your solicitor – so you have to feel comfortable talking to them.

That means you can take time talking to one of our family law team – both to find out where you stand to see if you have found the right solicitor – all without incurring any legal charges.
Here at Bonallack & Bishop, we think that family mediation is really important and we are really pleased that it plays an increasing role in finding acceptable solutions to family law problems – though sadly this approach doesn’t work for everyone.
Mediation helps you with planning for the future – and is not just limited to financial issues – it works just as well when planning future arrangements for any children of the family.
It involves a process where an experienced family mediator helps you reach an agreed settlement with your partner without having to go to court. It can save you considerable time and stress – and your legal bill is often much, much cheaper as a result.
As an alternative to mediation, collaborative law is another approach which aims at focusing on finding a mutually acceptable settlement – rather than fighting a battle. Our family law team also includes a fully accredited collaborative lawyer.
Both family mediation and collaborative law can make a real difference to your divorce – speeding up the process, keeping costs down and keeping bitterness and animosity to a bare minimum – which is particularly important where there are children involved.
